Why is vitamin C necessary for facial skin in summer?
"People often avoid using vitamin C in the summer because they confuse the two terms: sensitivity to the sun and causing sensitivity to the sun . The latter means - causing pigment spots, redness, skin irritation, allergic reactions. And vitamin C is not sensitizing, but sun sensitive. This means that choosing the wrong vitamin C formula can reduce its activity in the sun," says Germaine de Capuccini's technician beautician Rasa Neverauskaitė.
Benefits of Vitamin C as an ingredient in summer
During the summer, our skin is under a lot of stress, the harmful UVA rays cause oxidative stress, which causes our skin to age prematurely.
"To avoid this, you need to make sure that the skin receives enough antioxidants. Therefore, using vitamin C in summer is very good not only for pigmentation, it is also one of the strongest antioxidants. Due to the negative effects of UVA rays, our skin experiences oxidative stress, and vitamin C compensates or at least neutralizes the negative effects of oxidative stress," says cosmetologist R. Neverauskaitė.
How to properly choose and use skin care products with vitamin C?
Despite all the good properties of vitamin C, many people still avoid it during the summer, but the specialist says that the most important thing is to choose the right vitamin C to use, because there are really many options on the market.
"Now the formulation of vitamin C is much more advanced than before - we have stabilized formulas and derivatives, for example, magnesium phosphate combined with pure vitamin C, which breaks down in the skin. Such derivatives stabilize vitamin C, so they are much more effective. If you see that a derivative is used in the cream, you can not worry about the reduced effectiveness during the summer, because it decreases very minimally", says R. Neverauskaitė.
The beautician advises owners of more sensitive skin to pay attention to the concentration of vitamin C in skin care products, because too much of it in the product can cause irritation, but if the product is chosen correctly, even the most sensitive skin will remain calm:
"If we use pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), which has the best properties, we should still remember that it is an acid, so it can sometimes irritate the skin, higher concentrations of acids are incompatible with sensitive skin. Therefore, for sensitive skin, it is still worth choosing skin products with vitamin C derivatives, because they are safe even for the most sensitive skin."
Using vitamin C in your daily skin routine and combining it with other products
Although vitamin C is not harmful to the skin, the beautician asks you to remember that it is an acid, so you should know a few rules when using it in your daily routine:
“When using vitamin C in your routine and mixing it with other facial skin care products, it is advisable not to use it with other acidic products. However, vitamin C works well with hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and B. You should also know that vitamin C is quite sensitive, so it is better not to mix it when using it pure. Unless you use creams with a low concentration. If you use serums or cleansers that contain other active ingredients or acids, it's better to use them in the morning and vitamin C in the evening."
Vitamin C – for all skin types
Often when looking for products that are good for the skin, we have to pay attention to our skin type, but even when it seems that the product should be suitable for your skin, there can be surprises. However, vitamin C is special in that it is suitable for all skin types and helps to solve the most pressing problems.
"Vitamin C is used to reduce pigmentation because it has two very wonderful properties: it lightens the skin and pigmentation spots, and it inhibits the activity of an enzyme that stimulates the release of melanin, so vitamin C helps both with pigmentation spots and as a preventive measure to avoid them." - says R. Neverauskaitė.
In order to get the best result, it is advisable to use products from the same line with vitamin C. By the way, this vitamin is needed not only for our facial skin, but also for our body skin in the summer.
"No matter what new ingredients are discovered or will be discovered, vitamin C is always at the top as one of the most effective ingredients. It can solve many skin problems: pigmentation, oxidative stress, premature aging, because without vitamin C our body does not synthesize collagen. Also, vitamin C strengthens capillary walls, which is extremely relevant for Lithuanians, since a large number of women have problems with capillaries. For these reasons, I often recommend it to my clients as well. Germaine de Capuccini has a whole line with vitamin C: face, eye creams, serums, emulsions and body creams.
