Hyssop is highly valued by beekeepers because it is a valuable honey plant. Its leaves and flowers are used in cooking as a spice with a bitter taste of ginger and sage. As a medicinal plant with sage-like effects, it was mentioned as far back as Hippocrates.
Hyssop does not have strong antimicrobial properties like thyme or oregano oils, but at a concentration of 0.15-0.3% it can be effective in mouthwash against microorganisms that cause unpleasant odors. Like sage oil, hyssop oil is recommended in oral care products.
Hyssop oil can be used for relaxing massage and in anti-wrinkle products because it has muscle-relaxing properties. It can be added to a base oil for local massage on problem areas.
Hyssop oil is used in perfumery as a scent fixer and component of oriental perfumes.
